STYLE ADVICE: Lilac 60s Vintage Style Hoop Earrings

STYLE ADVICE: Lilac 60s Vintage Style Hoop Earrings

Hey guys, Hope you've been having a great week, and are looking forward to the warmer weather like I am!  So my last Style Advice post was really well-received, and I thought I'd keep them going.  Last weekend I took my 7 year old to a kid's birthday party, and wore some black skinny jeans, loose black top and a light denim shirt wore open over the top.  I accessorised with these Adidas runners with the pink soles, and my Bashful Designs Lilac 60's Vintage Style Hoop Earrings.  In the past I've also styled these earrings with a boho printed dress, and a pair of soft black joggers, floaty top and hair up in a top-knot. Love Elena

Style Icon: Edie Sedgwick

So I first discovered Edie Sedgwick because of Lou Reed's song "Walk on The Wild Side".  Although I didn't really understand the lyrics as a kid, I just loved the song.  And then when I got older, I started reading about The Velvet Underground (who are one of my favourite bands to this day), Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick. Edie was a New York socialite, from a very wealthy family, but she had a very troubled life that included mental health issues and drug addiction.  She started off as a model, and was considered one of the It Girls of the 1960's.  Edie was a close friend and Muse of Warhol, and appeared in some of his short films.  The press started focusing on Edie, reporting on her unique personal style, which often consisted of black leotards, stripey sailor-inspired tops, mini dresses, heavy eye-makeup and large chandelier earrings. Sadly, Edie passed away at age 28, having recently relapsed with her drug addiction.  She made such an impact in popular culture, with Bob Dylan, Primal Scream, Lady Gaga and The Cult all writing songs about her, and Sienna Miller playing Edie in the movie "Factory Girl". I personally have been a huge admirer of Edie's style, and often include a nautical influence in my looks, along with that whole 60's, downtown feel.  I will wear our Blue Glitter Boat Earrings, Red and Blue 60's Drop Earrings and the Blue Wishbone Earrings to get my Edie look.

Why I Love Leopard (And Why It's A Modern Classic)

Why I Love Leopard (And Why It's A Modern Classic)

I think one of the things that drew me to fashion in the first place was playing with the fabrics and textiles in my mother’s sewing room.  It was here that I noticed the stripes, polkadots and florals that get me excited to this day, and brings me to a near-obsession I developed with leopard print. Leopard can sometimes get a bad name, and in the past couple of years there *has* been a little bit of overkill.  To me though, leopard evokes an image of stylish women from Jackie O, Debbie Harry, Rihanna and Bettie Page, and legendary icons like Keith Richards and Iggy Pop.   My overwhelming love of leopard has seen me collect an early 1960’s vintage leopard coat, leopard ballet flats, leopard print scarves, a leopard ponyhair clutch, leopard ponyhair heels, a leopard beret, a leopard pencil skirt….sounds like overkill, right? The trick to doing leopard elegantly is to pick one piece to wear, and make up the rest of your outfit using one other neutral, like black, nude or brown.  Having said this, you can use leopard with other prints, but make sure you introduce the leopard as an accessory rather than the statement piece of your look. My next leopard lust-have?  A leopardskin pillbox hat like the one name-checked by Bob Dylan and worn by Audrey Hepburn. All the better to go with my Bashful Designs Roseanna Leopard Print Earrings,  of course!

Wear Your Heart On Your Ears

Wear Your Heart On Your Ears

Happy 2020 you guys! I don't know about you, but I love Christmas and New Years. Especially now I'm all grown up, married and have a gorgeous little boy, any time where we can get together with friends and family, eat great food and relax, is my jam. Then comes the summer holidays, which until last week were just lovely and quite uneventful. Monday I ended up in Emergency with agonising back pain. Tuesday night some losers in a stolen car hit our car and two others. Wednesday my son projectile vomited over me, my mum and the leather couch!  They say bad luck happens in there's, so hopefully that's it lol! I've also been busy designing and making some new earrings for you guys! Lots of glitter, love hearts, kindness, lightning bolts and retro glamour. Let me know what you think!

Sale News & Life Updates

Sale News & Life Updates

Hey guys, have been working my butt off this week to get things ready for our first Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale!  Keep your eyes on the site during 29th November until 2nd December, because it's going to be a good one. I'm also spending time in between playing with my little guy Max, learning as much as I can about making this business a success!  It's such a good feeling when someone wants to actually *buy* something that I have made, and my dream would be to make this my regular income.   Other activities this week have been getting back into regular exercise (walking and the rowing machine are my jam), researching interior design ideas (I am obsessed with shows like Fixer Upper, Love it or List it and Masters of Flip), and doing some early Christmas prep.  Oh, and dealing with the fact it's only a few weeks until the end of Term 4 (Max is at kindergarten) and Christmas itself!
